Changes to Centaur Beginnings Programming for 2026-2027

Subject: Changes to Centaur Beginnings Programming for 2026-2027

Dear BCCS Families,

My message today is regarding a shift in our child care programming at Brooklyn Center Community Schools. Sadly, we have to share that at the end of the school year, we will be closing Centaur Beginnings permanently. Our last day of child care programming for children ages 6 weeks to 33 months old will be Monday, June 8.

Brooklyn Center Community Schools, like many school districts, is facing budget cuts as we plan for the 2026-2027 school year. Due to the costs associated with providing this type of child care programming for our staff and families, this program is no longer sustainable for the district to operate.

Since the inception of our program, Centaur Beginnings have provided our staff and families with a safe and welcoming environment for our youngest community members to learn and grow. Our staff have been continually dedicated to our families and work to bring love and joy into the lives of the children we serve every day.

We know this change will have a big impact on our families and staff and want to take this time to say thank you. To our Centaur Beginnings families: Thank you for trusting us with your children and allowing our staff to be such a big part of your child’s early life. We take great pride in standing front and center for your children and are honored you chose BC for your child’s care over the years.

Here is some additional information about our child care programming moving forward:

  • If your child will be 33 months old on or by June 9, 2026, your family will be eligible for summer  child care at Centaur Plus. If your child will be 33 months old on or by September 1, 2026, your family is eligible to attend our Centaur Preschool programming in the fall. We’d love to see them as part of our Centaur Preschool classrooms and continue their educational journey as a Centaur. Both of these programs are located at Brooklyn Center Elementary School.
  • If your child will not be 33 months old by these dates, we hope you will consider rejoining our elementary school child care programs when they are eligible.

As always, thank you all for your continued partnership and commitment to Brooklyn Center Community Schools.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or Seth Ryan, Director of Community Engagement at sryan@bccs286.org.

Sincerely,

Dr. Carly Baker, Superintendent
